first, though, this story really concerns. it appears a missing 5-year-old girl has been spotted on a motel surveillance video. but the man charged in her kidnapping isn't the guy with her on the tape. plus, they still don't know where little shania is. she disappeared from her home on tuesday. her dad made a desperate plea for her safety. >> i just ask that they let her go and bring her home safe. we all miss her and love her very much. if you're listening today, i miss you so much honey. i'm waiting for you. i'm not going to give up. you don't give up either, honey. >> this is the man charged in the case. the manager of the mobile home park where she lives says this man is her mother's boyfriend. she says he is not guilty. detectives have identified the man we saw earlier on the tape with the little girl. they're not sure of a connection

between him and the girl's family. new this morning. japan's prime minister tells president obama that his counted will provide civil assistance to help in the rebuilding of afghanistan. but prime minister says it will not allow a refueling operation for u.s. military aircraft. president obama is in japan for meetings also expected to focus on the economy. president obama's visit will also take him to singapore, china and south korea. the remnants of what used to be hurricane ida, they're a big problem for the mid atlantic this morning. here's the streets. the schools are closed. 70,000 people are without power. five deaths are blamed on the storm. here's what one reporter in virginia saw. >> i'm out here at bush. you can see where the water is well over my waste. >> you know, bob is going to tell us what to expect in the

we had an idea. here's what it looks like across the board. low pressure region just south of cape hatteras, the one that was really ida just a couple of days ago. then reformed and got worse once it hit the atlantic ocean. worse in terms of rainfall and wind. the wind especially yesterday, gusted to 75 miles per hour. that's hurricane strength right near virginia beach. it was extremely windy yesterday. the wind is still out there, the rain still heavy at times. coastal flood warnings we have them out there, the bright shaded greens, coastline from jersey to virginia, inland flooding, five to ten inches of rain. right now the heaviest rain around the jersey shore and just south of staten island. winds gusting to about 40 miles per hour. you're looking at winds sustained at about 35 to 40 right now. gusting to 40 miles per hour, that's why we have all of those wind advisories in effect. those are the areas shaded in yellow. any move away from that storm and there's a new one generating light snow in the rockies and light rain across south dakota, into northern parts of minnesota. minneapolis might get a shower or two. it will be on the light side.

heavy to the north. look at the snow. here is denver. western parts of colorado, lower parts of utah right now getting a blast with winter. winter storm warnings all the areas shaded in red. highest elevations across the rockies, looking for about a foot of snow, mainly above 7,000 feet this morning. that will accumulate through tomorrow morning. here's that grand junction radar. you can see all this blue is all snow. it's all coming down pretty well. obviously some of it shielded by the mountains right there, the radar. but you're still getting enough to pick up about a foot of snow today. more details in about a half hour. >> thank you, facebook. a man arrested for armed robbery is out of jail because of an unusual alibi. he was updating his facebook status when the robbery happened in brooklyn. robbie bradford was actually 13 miles away on a computer at his datd's apartment. bradford was picked out of a lineup, but his lawyers used witnesses and the facebook time-stamp to prove he's

innocent. the man convicted of beating a tv news anchor gets life in prison rather than the death penalty.

we could see one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in u.s. you you history. the feds are going after a manhattan skyscraper, four mosques and other assets allegedly linked to iran's government. cnn's debbie feyerick explains. >> reporter: the charge that the corporation which gets money

from the properties is actually a front company for a larger iranian-owned bank and that the bank channels money to support iran's nuclear program and parts of its military forces considered terrorist organizations by the u.s. the four mosques include the islamic institution of new york, the islamic education center in texas, and two other mosques in maryland and california. president obama today extended the national emergency with respect to iran because relations, of course, with that country remain strained. >> the buildings in question, they're going to stay open an the tenants aren't accused in the case. the foundation's lawyer says that they're cooperating with the government and will challenge the complaint. the man convicted in the 2008 beating death of an acre acre news anchor will spend the left rest of the his life in jail. jurors deliberated for three hours before deciding the punishment. prosecutors had asked for the death penalty. anne pressly was a morning

it's only if you're using your debit card and they don't apply to checks. it does mean that, say you go someplace and try to use your debit card, they'll say to you, no, you can't use that. maybe you'll be embarrassed but you could use use a different card or cash. you may have to take some action. keep your eye on the mail to be involved in this. by and large everybody writing in saying yea. we'll have some of your comments later. some new leaks about the possibility of the iphone coming to the verizon network. that would be millions of people who could finally have access to that. right now the iphone only runs on at&t. these are from sources in the supply chain. the latest one comes from "fortune" magazine. it says the phone could be coming on verizon this summer based on reports that apple is building an iphone that is compatible with verizon. robin, back to you. >> all right. thank you. a german man is accused of trying to extort $100,000 from cindy crawford.

let's get you updated right now on a massive fire that's burning in phoenix, arizona, on a huge home here. no details yet about how you it started or if anybody is home. but just minute by minute as we watch this, i mean, the

structure of the house just changes so much as it's being eaten away by the fire. you can see so many firefighters on the scene still with their hoses trying to get this out. callers to 911 reported there was smoke in the area, they saw flames on the roof of the home. that roof is long gone for most of that house. the house looks like a total loss, and i couldn't help but notice it's a huge home and a huge fire to match. we're going to bring you more information as it becomes available. let's just hope that nobody is injured in that. we haven't heard that they are so that would be good. a 5-year-old michigan boy is celebrating christmas early this year. know he has a malignant cancer and may not make it to christmas. so his family moved up the holiday. >> my family dropped everything. they're bringing the fooded and everybody is coming. we're all excited to spend christmas with him this week. so, i mean, his time is very short. >> i'm thinking i'm going to save them until after santa comes and put those presents

police saythat new video of a missing girl snows her with a man at a hotel shortly after she disappeared from her home. police have identified him and charged another man in the case. they won't say how the two are connected. and they still don't know where 5-year-old shania davis is. we've just learned this morning that ft. hood shooting suspect major nidal hasan will probably never walk again. his attorney says he's paralyzed frommed waist down. a police officer shot him multiple times. hasan is charged with 13 counts premeditated murder. police investigating the home where bodies of 11 women were found have expanded their

the home appears to be gone. actually it's been less than an hour since we've been following it. just sucked that thing right up. let's talk to meteorologist bob van dillen. what kind of weekend are we going to have? >> better. i'm looking down, like, man, it's bad. it's been a bad couple of days. look at the rain showers, still off coast. if you live anywhere around the outer banks stretching through jersey, lower parts of new england, you know the wind has been up, up for the last couple of days. it should die down before tonight and tomorrow morning. they get out of there tuesday afternoon. look at all the rain offshore. let me show you the satellite picture. this is all tropical depression ida, which turned into a coastal storm just off of cape hatteras. you can see it there. it's actually more powerful yesterday than it was as it came ashore as a tropical storm down south. i'm talking about in terms of rainfall output and winds. we had winds gusting to 75 miles per hour near virginia beach yesterday. that is stronger than a tropical storm ever was. here's what it looks like.

coastal flood warnings all the areas in green. goes all the way back to virginia. because of the winds piling up the water across the shore. look at the winds in the northeast, 34 you-mile-per-hour sustained, 37-mile-per-hour sustained winds off the coast of atlantic city. so you have the problem with erosion down towards northern parts of the outer banks. look at the wind advisories, all the areas shaded in yellow. all the jersey shore to virginia beach, winds today only half as strong as yesterday. gusting to about 40, maybe 45 miles per hour at times. the other big story is another couple cold fronts marching through the mid-plains toward the rocky mountains. look at the clouds wrapped up with that, little rain across northern minnesota, south dakota. it should be all snow for western colorado and northern utah. i'll tell you how much in just a little bit. >> thanks. an ohio mom is accused of teaching her children how to shoplift. you have to see the fight that broke out when the security guards tried to stop them.

an ohio mom is accused of taking her kids shoplifting. police say that surveillance tape shows the woman and her two children stealing clothes. but when a security guard confronts them, a fight breaks out. now, police say that two more adults got out of the getaway vehicle to join the melee. the adults were arrested. the 8-year-old boy and 10 year ole girl are many protective custody. for the first time in nearly 15 years more american adults are apparently smoking. the cdc says that 21% of adults surveyed in 2008 said that they smoke. that's just slightly higher than in 2007. but health officials say that they're disappointed the rate hasn't stayed under 20%. cigarette prices have remained

check out the school project some kids did yesterday. high school engineering students in connecticut built these boats out of cardboard and duct tape. now, they had to paddle across a pond, pick up a passenger, and paddle back. both of the boats made it. impressive. the school says the project helps the students find real uses for everything that they've learned in the classroom. which is good instead of going, i'm never going to use this. the nfl reportedly stopped a

overdraft charges at a store with your debit card or at the atm. sometimes you're using a different bank's atm and can't see the balance and you get it wrong by, you know, just a couple of cents or something and hit with a huge fee. so you may have to take some action, keep your eye on your mail but just talking about the debit card transactions so it's still there and nothing to do with your checks, checks will still clear if you have that protection and you'll pay the fee. a lot of people seem to think they wanted that kind of a service. thanksgiving is coming. and if you're cooking, you do all the -- buying the stuff, it could cost you just a little bit less this year, $43 for 10 people according to the american farm bureau. they took an averaget biggest reason, milk prices are cheaper. turkey, too. one thing that's expensive, pumpkin pie. if it turns out wasting your time on -- turns out that wasting your time on facebook can pay off.

the grand prize? i give you now lindsay. your answer was to the question that we asked our first week of the contest which was something along the lines of what's been the biggest obstacle to you obtaining your own self esteem or self confidence and you told us about a problem you had with an autoimmune disorder? >> i have a rare skin disease and it definitely took a lot of me. i deal with the fatigue problem that is come with the autoimmune deficiency and i get sick a lot but, you know, other than that i'm pretty good. the skin died down more than it used to have. >> you look fantastic. >> thank you. >> something about your appearance when you were younger, the kids tease you about? >> yeah. my skin would essentially look like -- essentially look like just a cracked desert almost. it was very red. very dry. and it used to cover 80% of my body. all over my legs and arms.

>> had to be painful. >> it was, it was. the names were the most painful. you grow up fast and deal with things like that. >> look at the answer. i think it is so inspirational here t. answer ant her self esteem and dealing with that was -- leslie, how do you instill self esteem in your daughter? >> i think one of the things question is tried to equip our kids with tools we knew they would need to lead their adult lives and didn't try to solve every problem for them. but lindsay took a lot of these things on herself. she wrote an essay and her teacher asked her to read it in front of the class and helped her friends really understand more about what she was dealing with. >> i bet it did. i'm so inspired by both of you. lindsay, leslie, congratulations. i hope you enjoy your time in
